Filling the Tranny
« on: Jul 08, 2006, 07:55:28 AM »
Can I fill my transmission and T-case from the shifter holes on top, or do I have to use the fill plugs underneath?  Its a w56c, forward shift T-case.

You'll probably over or underfill if you do it that way. It's best to take the plugs out of the side.

it shure is easier to pour into the top, just take out the side plug so you know when to stop...
I'd like to quit thinking of the present as some minor insignificant preamble to something else~~~~~

It's just as easy with a hand pump.

I took care of it.  The T-case I got from underneath, but the tranny I filled from the top.  I ran a small rubber hose through the hole in the floor to the fill plug in the trans and poured the oil in through the hose.  I wasn't sure if pouring oil into the T-case shifter would get oil to the T-case itself, because it's a forward shift.

x2 on using the side fill plug, just use a bit of hose and make a squirt bottle outta it,easy and cheap.can be done from the top but i would think it would take longer to take the cover of the top than use the side.
85 xtra cab pretty stock for now but lots of stuff to come!!
