Filling duals from fill plug..... Yes or no??
« on: Apr 25, 2010, 07:05:19 PM »
I have always filled my cases from the front shifter, but my father in law filled his from the rear case fill plug. Does that allow for the front case to get fully filled?

Not sure of the answer to this, but I think the fill plug is a PITA compared to through the shifter.  So I have always done it 1 quart in the front and 2 in the back right from the top.

No its not getting enough fluid to the front case for start-up  you stand correct when you fill from the top  :turtle: :turtle: :turtle:

Take the fill plug from the back case, and then fill from the front shifter...slowly. When it starts to come out the REAR fill hole, put the plug back in. Run it for a few minutes at low RPM, to ensure that the oil fills both cases, and top it off  from the shifter. Easiest way to ensure both cases are full.

actually no,  you should put 1 quart in the front shifter hole and 2 quarts in the rear shifter hole (assuming you have dual cases and both are top shift)

What's wrong with this method? The oil should flow slowly from the adapter to the rear case, right? If you're filling from a gallon container with a pump, it's kinda hard to measure exact quarts.
