Hysteer Questions/ Issue 85 Yota
« on: Jan 10, 2006, 12:22:51 AM »
I'm posting this for a friend. His truck is a 1985 SA Ext Cab Yota
he is in the process of putting on an All-Pro Extreme lift on it.
his truck currently rides on 36s with 6" of lift. he is trying to install hysteer, he still has the old springs on it, his pass side tierod hits the leafpack while turning

the pics attached are with the weight supported on the jackstands under the axle, so basically that will be ride height. what can we do?

What steering arms does he have? Your pictures don't show them.

he said all pro,

btw it looks like the leaf pack is to thick, i ran into a similar problem working on a friends truck, but we were doing a different steering setup.  I changed out the ball joint with a different offset.  it worked then.  But with the hi steer step you aren't able to change the drop on the ball joint so I'm not sure,  I hope someone else has input on this one

I've seen that too and is why I asked,  and I agree that those springs look pretty thick. It very well could be the problem, he should call the competitor and ask why their junk doesn't clear his springs and what can be done to make it clear. I'm sure they'll be sellin' him new springs next. This is one of the reasons MC is best, when I ordered my shock towers and asked about the custom sizes I was warned about what would fit and what wouldn't fit before they sold them to me instead of selling and shipping, then worry later about them not working for you.

I actually just noticed in the pictures that there is a small piece of something between the spring and the spring perch on both sides take those out and you will increase the distance between the spring. That little piece of metal isn't going to make much difference on the height of the rig.

my friend got the whole all pro kit... new springs, new hangar, new shackles, etc.. but putting all of it one requires more fab work, and he jsut wants to get it driveable in the mean time.....

a couple people said to take out the shims, which are present on not only the left side, but the right side too...

the previous owner of the truck did a lot of ghetto fab stuff to it..... i havent posted the huge rear ladder bars or the aal and 4" rear lift block pics yet ;)

Ahhh so those are shims, I'd say they gotta go and then you'll be ok.

yeah when I replied last night I forgot to tell you to take those out.  yeah you should be good to go if you take those out.  When I took them off the rig I was working on we gained a space between the spring and tierod.

oh and in regards to the all poo steering.  Yes the old ones were cast but the new ones are actually forged.  Seems to be the way to go.  I saw them down at their shop and the marlin forged are way beefier looking.  I'd say Marlin hands down has the better arms.

I dunno I like haveing my tierod ends.  i'll run them until they wear out and probably replace them with the same.  Now if it was a offroad only rig I'd think otherwise but for the street its more trackable with the tierod ends.

Yeah lose the shim it will do 2 things clear the tie rod and get some caster back into the front end. If it is not a big deal could you check the caster on that thing? It looks like the 4* shimms were added to help with pinion angle but I bet there is negative caster now too. the ride must be :sheerterror: . Just guessing but stock toys are1* posative caster with those shimms I would guess 3* negative or so. I would love to know the real caster and how it drives.

Thanks
Wayne
