It will but the shifter will be farther forward by a bit and the crossmember will need to be moved a bit aswell.  The first gens have a 4" shorter trans so a few things are different.

They shouldnt be.  The only bolts that are different are the ones that go on the brackets that connect the bottom of the bellhousing to the engine.  All the rest are exactly the same.

yep  as a matter of fact  the L52  with a crawl box might put the tcase in almost the right spot  give or take a inch or so

all 2_R engines have the same boltpattern,  other than what WT said about those bottom brackets

You aren't doubling up on any guide pins are you?  I've seen that temporarily throw a guy off....not me, it was another guy.

actually all R engines have the same bellhousing pattern.  i've heard of some guys converting their old school 8RC powered hiluxes with more modern toyota 4x4 guts since you can bolt a W56 up behind them

Yknow, a fairly good source told me once that you could pull around 180 ponies outa an 18rc without a lot of effort.

i think that'd be an 18RG.  dual cam, still only 8 valves but it puts a nice wide angle on them.  only problem is that it's only a 2.0L engien and it lacks torque, as well as being really sought after by the celica guys and never officially sold in the US...

yea but throw that 18rg head on a 20R block and :woohoo:
the 18 had the same bore as a 20  but only a 80 mm stroke,

but yea  a buddy of mine had a 8R  in his forklift,  it blew up and we pulled it, and installed a 20r   talk about a hotrod forklift  :burnout:

Same guy that told me that has a freshly rebuilt 3tg I think, just needs to get off his ass and finish his project corolla.  Similar engine, japan only dual overhead cam version a 3tc.
