40's and my right foot?
« on: Oct 27, 2005, 08:34:10 PM »
Well coming up soon I will be getting a dd and will no longer be driving my truck every day.  Well when I was shopping for tires a while ago the main reason I bought the mtrs was because they last good on the highway and work pretty good. The tires I really wanted were 36" IROKs but feared they would wear to fast. Now that I won't be driving my truck as much I am thinking about selling the 37" mtrs and steping it up to some 39.5" IROKs with everything else the same on my truck.  I would tub the firewall back to the body mount and trim more out of the back and there would be no clearence issues. But how do you think My axles would work out?  Do you think this would be a smart move? Let me know if you think my truck could hang with the 40's

Fix the engine first  :)  You should be good with 40's, you couldn't break :pokinit: with your 37's.  Test out those axles.

What birfs are you running?.I think you'll be cool if you run the 30 splines, plus a lot of people will tell you it's all on how you drive. If you're real heavy on the skinny,I think you can expect breakage on just about anything.I got a buddy who runs a 350 in his Cruiser with a 14bolt rear, and a Toy p/u front with 44 inch hawgs, and has never broken the front. Then I have another buddie who owns a 4Runner with a turbo diesel,Dana 60s f/r,and 44 boggers, and breaks the front quite often  :dunno:  .

I say go 40's.  I love seeing 40's under rigs.  I run 37's pretty hard and have so far only broken one birf.  Since you have 27 cromo's go 40's for sure and hammer it.  Do you hvae a picture of your truck you could post?

I've got the same front springs.  I just havent' found a place where I could flex them out that much yet.  So have you decided if your are going to go 40's yet?

I haven't decided yet.  I won't know till i have the money and decide that is what I want to spend it on. I probably won't get them though just cause I need to get a dd and a new shotgun pretty bad.

I ran 40 inch boggers on my rig for a while, the axles hold up even under abuse. I was also open up front so I think that helped put less stress on the front axle. rear is welded, held up good. I say go for it! :beerchug:
