I'd be careful with any domestic with over a 100,000 miles unless you're very sure that it's mostly highway miles and then it doesn't matter nearly as much.  If your wife wants an automatic then I wouldn't get her anything else.  The last think you want in a "wife's car" is something that isn't what she wants.  I'd suggest that you keep looking as neither is exactly what you're looking for.  The Rubicon will cost more than an equivalent sport model so unless you plan to use the gears and lockers I wouldn't pay the extra that it's going to cost.
1989 4Runner: Dual Ultimate (Inchworm front & Marlin 4.70 rear), Marlin Twin Stick, 1200-lb clutch, 4.88 R&P, Aussie Front, Detroit rear, 30-spline Longs, Long hub gears, ARP hub and knuckle studs & 35x12.50 Cooper STT PRO tires.  Marlin rear bumper & sliders.  FROR front bumper.  SAS with Alcan springs & Rancho 9000XL shocks.  Budbuilt Bolt-on traction bar.  Custom Interior Cage by Those Guys Rod and Customs.

Moab Tested & Rubicon Approved
