i've got a 2l (2.4d) in my 4x4. does great for me, mine is a rare origional made for the u.s. '84. with 33"s and 4.88's i get around 30 mpg and soon beter i recon with 35"s it's easy to get around smog with a conversion and lots of engines can bolt right in including a 1.9 tubo vw. check out
