She passed with flying colors! Not even a problem. But man, waiting around for 1 hour and 30mins while 5 techs dig through my truck made me EXTREMELY
The guy came out a couple of times to talk to me and he said that it passed the scanner, all checks and codes were great, body inspection passed, and all that was left was to do the tail pipe test. TURBO was in the area and stopped by after I called him because they didnt know if my brand new locking gas cap would pass. Apparently they have taken new locking gas caps right out of the box and they fail on the pressure test. So if you are going to smog your truck, it might be a good idea to put the non locking gas cap back on just for the smog guy.. My gas cap did pass, but thanks for coming our TURBO!
They must have started it up and turned it off 20 times and then finally they started spinning the tires on the dyno. The low speed test 15mph seemed to take for ever. I remember when my MR2's smog engine failed it took along time on the low speed test. So I was thinking that the cat was junk and I would have to buy a new OBD-II cat. To be honest I think I'm using the original 1995 T100 cat!
But man this engine was super super super clean! This is definately the cleanest engine I've ever owned...
Here's the data from the sniffer test...
15 MPH (2677 rpm)HC -
95 max allowed, 19 ave,
scored 19CO -
0.75, 0.06,
0.12 <-- CO a bit over ave on the low spd
NO -
552, 136,
9825 MPH (2360 rpm)HC -
60, 12,
8CO -
0.90, 0.05,
0.05 <-- CO is ave at high speed
NO -
805, 124,
62 <-- 740 pts below max!!
So after the tail pipe passed, it was just another 15mins and the label was printed and I was on my way
So I've had a great day, and I think this is the first time in my life that hard work has completely paid off in full. First time in the ref. station and I passed. And one of the refs complimented me on my clean conversion and said that most shops in town dont do it this nice. Yeah that nice, but shops do this in less than 2 weeks or so, its taken me 4 months now!
Anyways, time for a day count, It's been 128 days after I started on this project, I can finally say that the engine conversion is now finished. Wheew.. R e l i e f.
