Ceramic coating is by far the best solution for this issue. I first ran header wrap on my SC and it still cooked everything. Then I got the header ceramic coated and it makes a HUGE difference. I can hold my finger 1 inch away from the header with the engine warmed up and idling and I just feel simple warmth, not burning hot radient heat.

A cheap fix would be to cut up some thin sheet metal and build your own heat sheild. Just find some mounting points on the starter itself. You'll be amazed how much a simple piece of metal can block heat, even regardless of it heating up itself.
