Have you taken the oil pan off? There is a possibility the pickup screen is plugged up with carbon sludge. This happens when an engine has a sludge film and it comes loose. It is picked up by the oil flow and blocks the screen. When you shut off the engine it falls off and the process starts all over again.
How is the oil pressure? Gauge or light? Timing chain will get loose with a drop in oil pressure.
