I think most people assume that when one says "import", they are referring to products which are USUALLY sub-par quality when compared to an American one. Typically, quality standards are higher in the U.S. when compared to China, India, or even Japan. This is not always the case though like Duffil stated. It depends on the product.
Would I buy a Japanese car? Yes. Would I buy and American car? No way
