Synthetic Engine Oil in a Imported 7MGE
« on: Dec 22, 2009, 12:43:17 AM »
Alright guys... my search feature doesn't work on here..... so dont tell me to search cause its been asked before a million times.

Anyways I am replacing all the hoses, belts, plugs, plug wires, cap, rotor, oil filter, oil, cleaning the K&N, and a new clutch when I get the Imported engine here.

My question is.... Royal Purple Synthetic 10W-30 should be just fine right, and actually improve the engine performance..
I want to run the best on this engine for the get go.

any suggestions on engine oil, let me know.
this is for my 87 Toyota Supra MKIII

I'd run some good dino oil thru it first, then change the oil and filter and do an oil analysis to see what you have..........

I use Royal Purple in my 06' Acura RSX Type-s and i love it. I had been using the Valveline full-sythetic "synpower" and when i switch i noticed a HUGE difference. The engine seemed much smother and happier, ready to get up and go. I also use K&N Oil filters.

Royal Purple has my vote hand down.

And just so you know, conventional oil is from refined fossil fuel. "Crude Oil" and is great oil for some things. But no process is perfect so you do end up with a some unwanted left overs in the oil

Synthetic is born, from pure ingredients mixed together to form oil, and in most cases is slicker then conventional oil. But more $$. But with the rise in oil prices the gap between them is shrinking.

Sadly I'm not sure that a 87 Supra is really going to be worth the bang for the buck at 8-something a quart. Unless its a really high performance engine. Your just fine using a quality conventional oil. The one thing to keep in mind. Pick one a stay with it. Don't switch back and forth. That can cause problems. "Oil mixing poorly and all." And make sure you change the filter if you do the switch.

if its a brand new motor you need to break it in with a good non synthetic i.e. valvoline for the first 2 oil changes.  Then switch to royal purple or I run mobil 1 which is good stuff too.

I do not mind spending the extra buck, for the longevity i will get from it. I have to run 91 Octane in this thing anyways and I am going with only top quality parts.

This engine has under 50,000miles, so I think ill be doing a full switch to either Royal Purple or Mobil 1 with a Napa Gold Oil Filter.
Thanks Zippo & Jake

I've been running RP since day one on a brand new engine, first ran RP break in oil for 1500 mi than switched to 10-30 RP, since I live in AZ I don't run the 5-30, but you could probably get a little better mileage with it. I have no complaints, it has worked well for me.

First thing to do is pull the head. Have the head and block decked and put a Multi Layer Steel head gasket on there. Make sure to use a really good head gasket(cometic). Increase the torque on the head bolts to 75 ft lbs instead of the 54 ish ft lbs stock. Use a Toyota Oil Filter.
Then Run the piss out of it and if you want to run syn thats cool.

The issue a 7mge has is they spit head gaskets at about 70,000 miles almost clock work. Do some research on them   and I really hope you already know this but I just want to make sure.

Also be carefull of a crate motor from Japan, many of them are junk. Complete Junk.

Maybe I'm just ignorant, but what would be different about this particular engine over any other?  I'm just curious where the true root of the question lies...
