I think the reason for the small tubing was to keep the overall height down to a minimun. There is about a 1/2" air gap between my pirch plate and my axle housing, plus I welded the lower pivot plate on top of my pirch plate, so I have two plates welded together plus 1/2" air gap below them. So I am going to cut it all off and mount the lower pivot plate directly on top of the axle housing.

That should free up a good 1/2" - 3/4" of room, which I can apply to thicker tubing :greengrin:
