I have taught a few guys to weld by handing them a hot glue gun and telling them. "make a bead look like a stack of dimes and then we will start burnin steel". most of them picked it right up after that. just a way to get them to be smooth and to slow down a bit.
I like TIG best, Oxy is cool but takes lots of practice and I don't do it enough to be good. Mig is just my real hot glue gun for steel.
the arc has sat untouched in the shed since the power mig 255 showed up but nothing better for field welding on plow shares and equipment.
