It it entirely possible that I simply don't know the complete part breakdown on a 3rd member, but when you say, "front pinion bearing," I would expect to see you working on the front end of the rig? My only other guess is that there is two bearings on the pinion?
He's just refering to where the bearing is located in the 3rd member not the location of the 3rd member.
