Re: 91 Toyota 4x4 Tire Gear Question

I found this while searching. If its correct please inform me. Thanks again for your help.

These differentials seem to have come in a few different Toyotas. Combos for 4.88s we’ve seen are:

‘92-‘95 4Runner, IFS, V6, 31” tires, auto transmission, tow package
‘92-‘95 pickup, IFS, V6, 31” tires, auto transmission, tow package
The vehicle will also usually have:

door tag code of G144
white pinion paint code - the end of the pinion (driveshaft removed) will have paint on it
It seems that these are the most common combos, but there are also reports of non-tow equipped vehicles having 4.88s. Never hurts to check!

The available years for the G144 gears, should be '89-95(non-Taco) trucks and '90-'95 4-Runners that came w/31's, the 31" tire package was offered for the '90 model year trucks and 4 Runners, not sure if it was offered for the '89 model year trucks or not.

G254 is for the 4.56 gear set, and came in manuals with 31's, and at some point 2nd gen 4-Runners with autos instead of 4.30's, my sister's'95 had SR5 had them.
'90 black X-cab mod'd 3.0, 33's/4.88's, rear ARB, custom bumpers, sliders, safari rack, etc.
'91 Blue X-cab 22re, 35's/5.29's,Truetrac front, ARB rear, dual cases, and custom Safari flatbed, bumper, interior.
The money pit '87 Supra resto/mod
