I ran the 3.4L, r150 trans, v6 adapter, 23 spline crawlbox, marlin adapter, and 23 spline 4.7 rear.
With toyota axles (5.29's) and 37"s-39.5"s i was happy with the power it produced.
When i went to 1tons (5.38s) and some heavy 39" bfg baja tires it still did okay, but i could tell the difference in weight. Not sure if it was the axles or the tires, but i didn't feel like i could spin the tires like i used to be able to. that might have had to do with the compound of the tires though.
look up zippo's build thread he just did a 3.4L swap in place of his 22re in his 1st gen 4runner.
