Hey! New here, I know there are some transmission gurus on here and I need help to identify this mystery 5 speed transmission I got for 40$. It is supposedly from a 1980 pickup, but I don't think they had 5 speeds in 1980 right? Anyway, it is roughly 20.8'' long, so it has to be a 81-83 transmission. But I removed the nose cone and the part number on the input shaft bearing outer race is hr6307nx and is 80mm big, like a L52. After a quick google search the part number hr6307n (without the x) is for a w55/56/58 transmission, the part number for the input shaft bearing of an l52 is B32-14UR, 32BC08S1N, so I'm really confused.

On this website: http://transpartswarehouse.com/index...1978-1991.html

it says:
''IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ CAREFULLY! If your transmission has ever had the input shaft replaced from the factory for any reason, there may be HR6307NX on the outer race of the bearing and 35TM11 on the inner race. This setup has an inner race that is thicker than the outer race. If you have this setup you will need a different kit.''

Mine does say hr6307nx on the outer race, but it says hr6307 UR on the inner race...can anybody clarify this for me? I'd like to know what transmission it is to order a rebuild kit. Could it be an upgraded l52 transmission?

Thanks!

With aw56 80x21mm input shaft bearing instead of 80x20 is that possible?

Good to know, I'm happy about that, but is there an explanation for the input shaft bearing which is 1mm wider? Why the x at the end of the part number? I don't think buying an l52 rebuild kit will work 100%. Is this a common upgrade of some kind? The whole transmission has orange rtv sealing everything up so it has been taken appart at least once. Maybe we'll never know but I find it interesting, I have never taken a transmission appart and plan to learn and inspect it this winter.
