Anyone know if there is any difference in the rear fenders on a 1st gen 4runner and a pickup of the same year span? I'm wondering because I can't find Bushwacker extend a fender flares for 4Runners anywhere but have been able to locate them for pickups of the same year. These are the ones I'm referring to:

if you go onto bushwacker site, they do list several fender flares that fit, I looked at instructions and they list for 84-89 4runner, may want to check it out

All that they have available are the big honking ones with the screws and screw holes visible. Not a fan of those. I like the clean look of these ones.

I found three different width, if your looking at the picture, you wouldn't notice. if you read into specs, there are several different ones, maybe you could email them and ask for product pic

Its not just the width. I'm just not a fan of how those look.

Lawn edging dude!  Keeps the man off your back and it's cheap and clean if you do it right.

you better get ones that are removable or they will get ripped off wheeling, why not just go with some huge NAPA mud flaps?

I understand what you mean but I think I pulled it off.  I hate all fender flares of any kind.  I hate lawn edging too.  I like fiber glass but they are too much $$.  I'll post a pic tomorrow and you can give me your honest opinion.

I guess I will never understand, but why would anyone want a fender flare on an offroad truck? Not only are they hideous, but it seems they would be ripped off anytime they contact a rock or tree.

I think those flares look great. I also have a bad bit of trail damage I would like to cover up on my rear passenger fender.

To answer your original question, yes the truck ones of the same year will fit, especially the style you pictured.  I had the big 3" bushwacker flares on my 85 4runner for a while and the gas door was far enough away that it didn't get in the way.  The truck may have a different location for the gas door,  but the smaller fender flares won't have an issue.

I did a quick google search and it looks like there is a cut out for the gas door on the smaller flares too.

why not cut your fenders out more? :) you took less out than i thought you would. cut a little higher and wider and spend a little more time smoothing it out.

mine for reference:

Nah it was a pain in the ass to do and I'm happy to have it done. I took 2" out which will be plenty for 37s and I'm never going larger than that.

I would suggest putting a hold on flares until after the trip. There are several places where my tires keep my body safe. You might end up having to replace one or more of them.  In most cases there is an alternate route/line to work with so it certainly won't force damage. One example is the wedgie on Golden Spike. I prefer to run the passenger side tires in the bottom to setup a three wheel exit, but you can straddle it.

I'm not putting flares on. I started this thread before trimming my fendors. I'm happy now. All that's left to do is pound my front wheel well,  upgrade my power steering pump, and get 37s. :yesnod:
