if you go onto bushwacker site, they do list several fender flares that fit, I looked at instructions and they list for 84-89 4runner, may want to check it out
front 1.25 width part #31009-11. rear 1.75 width part #31022-11.
Lawn edging dude! Keeps the man off your back and it's cheap and clean if you do it right.
I'd love to see lawn edging done cleanly...
I think those flares look great. I also have a bad bit of trail damage I would like to cover up on my rear passenger fender.
I did a quick google search and it looks like there is a cut out for the gas door on the smaller flares too.why not cut your fenders out more? you took less out than i thought you would. cut a little higher and wider and spend a little more time smoothing it out.mine for reference:
I would suggest putting a hold on flares until after the trip. There are several places where my tires keep my body safe. You might end up having to replace one or more of them. In most cases there is an alternate route/line to work with so it certainly won't force damage. One example is the wedgie on Golden Spike. I prefer to run the passenger side tires in the bottom to setup a three wheel exit, but you can straddle it.
