Spartan on left hand turns???
« on: Apr 23, 2015, 04:55:43 PM »
The guys from Marlin Crawler put a Spartan in the rear of my 1995 Toy V6 Extended.  It works.  In fact it works too much when making left handed turns.  It locks up way more than right handed turns.  I've got about 6,000 miles on it and I'm thinking of pulling it.  Advice anyone?
Did Toyota accept a government bail out?

First of all, you've been driving it like this for 6000 miles and your just barely asking about it? Or has it just started doing it from the beginning?

If your romping on the gas turning, it's going to lock up like a spool. You have to coast or be VERY light on the gas while turning.

I have a Detroit in the rear differential and am pretty sure that any mechanical locker will act similarly on the street.  The key is steady throttle so that they are not locking and unlocking in a jerky cycle. Don't shift while turning if you can avoid it either.

What were you expecting?
1989 4Runner: Dual Ultimate (Inchworm front & Marlin 4.70 rear), Marlin Twin Stick, 1200-lb clutch, 4.88 R&P, Aussie Front, Detroit rear, 30-spline Longs, Long hub gears, ARP hub and knuckle studs & 35x12.50 Cooper STT PRO tires.  Marlin rear bumper & sliders.  FROR front bumper.  SAS with Alcan springs & Rancho 9000XL shocks.  Budbuilt Bolt-on traction bar.  Custom Interior Cage by Those Guys Rod and Customs.

Another reason I haven't put a locker in my rig.  I am too hard on the road with my truck.

If I think about it, I can even get my limited slip diff to lock up just like a locker. Possibly change your driving style and see if that works....

yea ive had alot of rear lockers, depends on driving style like already mentioned, mine would lock up if i went into the turn quick and had my foot in it but like if i just coasted into it or say i was in neutral just rolling the turn i would hear the ratcheting sound of it being unlocked

Thanks for the advice.  I wound up swapping it out with a Zip Locker.  I'll be listing it in the parts classifieds after I dismantle it from the carrier.
