Favorite 22 LR
« on: Apr 21, 2015, 10:50:11 AM »
My boys had one of those Henry Mini-Bolt kid 22 rifles.  They have both enjoyed it and outgrown it. We traded it in on a really cool old JC Higgins/Sears bolt action 22 that feeds and fires 22LR, 22 Long, Short etc.  22 short low velocity are so quiet they are perfect for dispatching varmints at the homestead. The thing has a nice crisp tuned trigger and a heavier than typical barrel.  It points nice.  Rifling looks clean and good. It's on layaway but we are excited to shoot one of these cool old 22s.  I'll post pics when I get it home.

So whats your favorite old 22 and why?  Post up pics if possible...

Marlin model 60.  There was nothing special about it but it was my first .22 and I killed a lot of small game with it. Don't know why I got rid of it.

Ditto.  My dad got me a used one many years ago and I didn't take quite the liking to it that I have in the last several years.  It was finicky on ammo (cannot fire remington!) and seemed to foul easily, but I've grown to realize you just hafta clean it a lot and stick to certain brands and it works great.  Even mounted up my old bushnell 3-9x40 after putting a better scope on my .243, and have been quite surprised by how far it will shoot accurately.

Have had several.  And still own them.

1.   Marlin/Glenfield model 10 single shot.  With the rodent engraving on the side.
2.   Remington Nylon 66 brown.
3.   Winchester model 62 pump/takedown.
4.   Ruger Single-Six with both cylinders.

I have two Ruger 10/22's, one the stock base model with Butler Creek stock, the other is their SS Target model.  They are not high on my list of favorites.  But I have put alot of bullets thru them, I am not gonna lie about that.  But I have other magazine fed rimfire rifles that I love WAY better.  Which if you want to talk about your favorite rimfired firearm.  Mine would be the Savage 93R17 .17hmr!!  :shades:  Now that is a FUN firearm!!!
Miss ya Dean (4THEWKN) & Kyle (KYOTA)!!

Finally brought this home.  It's a JC Higgins/Marlin Model 43DL 103.  Shoots 22 shorts and 22 long rifle.  My wife was ringing the quarter sized steel paddle targets repeatedly with it last night off hand at 50 yards.  I could only hit the silver dollar sized paddle every time.  I guess she is a better shot than I am  :-\.  Trigger is really nice and it feeds well and holds a lot of shells in the magazine, not sure how many yet.

This will mainly be used by our son on prairie dogs.
