Leaking from forward case shifter?
« on: Mar 08, 2015, 12:07:53 PM »
My transfer case is leaking out of the shifter on the front transfer case.  I just replaced the rubber boot on the shifter and it appears to be leaking from under the boot. I also ordered an oil slinger and didn't notice if there was one or not when I pulled the shifter to refill the t-case.

Is this likely to be a slightly overfill that will equalize or something else?  If I pull the shifter again does the oil slinger just go in like a gasket between the shifter base and the seat on the case?  Do I need to use any sealer?

I don't think there is a risk of failure from this leak, but would prefer to get it resolved.

Here is the oil slinger plate.  And there should be a gasket that goes between it and the shifter base, according to the FSM diagram.

I picked up one of those oil slingers when I purhcased the rubber boot. I just pulled the fill plug on the t-case and it is still slowly draining fluid so the leak may be from a slight overfill. It seemed to have leaked a little less on the trip home, but that is really hard to tell with any conviction. It looked like the leak was coming from under the rubber boot when I looked yesterday so I think I will roll with it a bit longer and see if it resolves on its own.
