Pounder has one but took it out to change the chain on it and then forgot it in his garage. Its okay the hatchet actually made pretty quick work of it. I definitely need to get a saw though.

Out of curiosity where are you guys based? I have a buddy in Bellingham that is pretty new to wheeling and wants to get involved in a club, but with Walker Valley being the only nearby accessible option (that I know of) there don't seem to be a lot of active clubs in the north end of the state (Correct me if I am wrong on that). I talked him into starting a project then moved away to Oregon http://board.marlincrawler.com/Smileys/marlin/smack.gif so I would like to hook him up with a good group if there is anyone in his vicinity.

We are based all over the west side of Washington. I'm the farthest north being based in Everett. Walker is a common run for us however we run everything in the state as well as go outside of Washington.

Right on I'll  give him a heads up on this thread. I'm sure he'd love to link up for a walker run once his '85 is trail-ready.

Why was the gate closed?

That is the gate keeper. They have a serious illegal logging problem at Walker. That gate stays closed. If you can't make it around those rocks you shouldn't be up there.

So Moab is officially one month away exactly as of today. Me and the other club members that are attending are getting last minute work done on our rigs, discussing particulars of the trip, and counting down the minutes until we leave. I made an exciting purchase today that is going to allow me to do what I think will be a first (at least I haven't found anything like it) I am going to capture point of view footage of the entirety of every trail we run. Those that follow the YouTube channel will find that I have been documenting trails in their entirety. It is something I always seek out before I run a trail for the first time so hopefully I help like minded wheelers out there.  :driving:

Hopefully, we have some people taking shorter videos of the individual obstacles as well.  The point of view footage is excellent for research and documentation purposes, but won't really show Moab, or any trail, with perspective.  I am excited to see what you get though.  From my experience, the best footage is at least a partial side angle that isn't zoom too far in.  If you can't see the terrain and trees around the vehicle you lose the angles.  I wheeled quite a bit with a guy when I first started going to Moab and he liked to zoom in way too close so all would see what the tire or doors!

I think my POV videos have done a pretty good job of letting people know what they can expect out of trails if nothing else. Obviously you won't get the full experience. If you provided that then what is the point of people running the trails themselves. What it does do is let them gauge the difficulty they face, length of the trail, etc.

Because the slick rock is so smooth in Moab it's very difficult to show how steep and off camber it is.  An example is a video going up Hell's Gate won't look at all steep because there isn't many visual cues since all you see is rocks and sky.    I've never seen terrain that translated more poorly to pictures and videos than Moab.  It'll be really cool to see your full length videos and after you've been there you can relive it in a way that someone that hasn't simply can't.
