Damn we've been having the same luck lately lol , I blew both my 5.29 diffs at MCR, I'm rockin welded 4.10s just for now until I can save up for new 5.29s lol

This was long time coming. Pretty sure I destroyed the drive bearing when I broke the axle shaft in July. Found metal in it shortly after and was just playing against the clock with it.

I wouldn't hold your breath on that one. Browns is best suited for us non locals in the summer. Camping down there in the winter sounds like a shitty time.

 One night in a Hotel should take care of that issue.
Unless somebody has a place for us to crash for the night?

Again, it is the camping in January in the mud and rain that doesn't appeal to me. I will be wheeling all through the fall and winter like I always do. Trips to places like Browns and other areas that are multi day trips are for the summer in my eyes. Come October I change gears into snow wheeling and day trips. It is also the time of the year where I do bigger projects on my truck that has it down for weeks at a time.

This POV makes my bed look extremely long.

It is long but also it is due to the "1080 superview" I had the GoPro in.

Well 2 weeks ago I put in my order to East Coast Gear Supply and sent in my e-locker core to Zuk. I instructed ECGS to ship my parts directly to Cryogenics International where they were cryo treated. Zuk went above and beyond and tore down the core to pull the side gears, spider gears, and all other internals that would benefit from being cryoed and took them to get cryoed as well. He picked everything up yesterday and the pics of the assembly of the 3rd are starting to come in. Sharing them as they come to me:

Zuk is building it as we speak and aims to have it complete and shipped to me by this afternoon. Should put it to me by Friday.  :willynilly:

I wonder if the weight difference is notable. I was reading up on cryo treatment and it makes the material denser.

Where is the cryo treatment done?

The process doesn't add any material so it's not possible for any weight to be gained or lost.

Is that a mix of Nitro Gears with Yukon parts or just what's sitting on his bench?  Also, is he going to put a TG sticker on it?

The R&P are Nitro. The master rebuild kit has a Yukon background but it is all Koyo bearings. The 29 spline multi pattern flange is from Yukon. No comment on the solid pinion spacer. I was not told about that being a Trail-Gear part.  :tantrum:

I'm pretty sure that my sliders are TG and they have handled themselves just fine.  Plus you need a little TG in the mix to even the playing field with :)bestgen4Runner's front axles.

This is what I'm getting that from:
http://www.thefabricator.com/article/shopmanagement/cryogenic-processingadispelling-the-myths-mysteries

"We can actually measure the increase in carbides using a particle counter, which counts particles up to 1 micron in size," Paulin said. "Heat-treated A2 steel typically has 30,000 particles per mm2. After cryogenic treatment, A2 typically has 83,000 particles per mm2. Closing the interstitial gaps makes the material denser, stronger, and more able to resist loading, or impact force,"

I figured for large pieces, there must be at least a slight difference..

Either way, from what I've read, seems like a really great idea. I've never heard of someone getting their diff cryo treated

I am not a materials engineer, but what they are describing is a restructuring of the material at the molecular level.  You can change the molecular structure by both heating and cooling process, but in neither case is material added or removed.  The explanation of adding sugar to crushed cereal is just to give you a visual of what's happening at the molecular level.  Is the quote related to a particular application/process?

Was going to be $120 for just ring, pinion, and bearings. $192 with the addition of the other components.

Has anyone put a tangible number on how much strength it adds?  Is it intended to reduce wear (hard to test) or does increase the resistance to teeth breaking off (should be testable).

OH! WTH??

LOL I'm just giving him a hard time. It was some random one he got from craigslist. Almost all of the ones on craigslist are in this condition. Almost all of them come from Toyota techs who take them home from work when they get pulled for pinion noise.
