Hello
« on: Nov 26, 2014, 09:53:39 PM »
Hi, my name is Daniel and I'm new to the forum.  I'm from Colorado Springs, CO and bought an 85 4Runner back in February.  Since I bought it I've been working on it and researching different ways to improve it.  That's what brought me to this forum.  So far I've done a steering knuckle rebuild (all bearings, seals, brake rotors etc), had the front driveshaft rebuilt, replaced alternator and power steering belts, stripped the interior, replaced seats with the seats out of an 89 4Runner, and mounted a Softopper canvas top. I guess the next project will be fixing rust holes, and I'd like to replace the dash with a good 1st Gen SR5 dash while I'm at it. My long term goal for the truck is to be a capable rig without sacrificing any functionality. I'm thinking along the lines of an expedition buggy, but don't ever intend to live in it. After I get the body fixed (prior owner cut out fender wells to fit 33x12.50s), I intend to work on the suspension and lift it 3-4 inches. I guess that about covers it. I look forward to learning a lot from this community.

I'd also be interested in opinions/tips on fiberglass replacement panels. Have these worked well for anyone? Any info would be appreciated.

the fiberglass repop panels are okay if u arnt wheeling it alot, which will just tear them up.

i wouldnt consider them unless yours are just hammered.

why the 1st gen dash swap if i may ask?

The reason I want to replace the dash is because mine is shot. I'm pretty sure that I need to replace my heater core as well so I figured I'd do both at the same time.

why not just get another 1st gen 4runner dash or 2nd gen truck dash to swap in?

i could be wrong but i think a 1st gen truck dash might be a little shorter than a 1st gen runner dash so u might be battling fitment issues.

Sorry if I wasn't clear in the original post. I'm looking for a 1st Gen SR5 4Runner dash (that's in good condition)
