The cigarette lighter went out and the fellow at O'reillys changed the whole unit..still didn't work. Then the clock and radio went out also.A 15 amp fuse was blown.Changed that and still no lighter, radio or clock..what is the solution?I mainly use the lighter port for my GPS speedometer.

It sounds like a bad ground or a short in the wiring, what year of yota is this?

twistedtoy92,it's an 86 Toyota 2.4 4x4 5 speed.the radio and clock worked before I pull off the thin black casing around the radio.Looks like the wires on the cig lighter and radio have been played with before.Just have a probe light with alligator clip and my hands are half shot from pinched nerves so I can't do much delicate work without dropping things. The fuse might have blown when he was changing the cig lighter unit?

That is very well possible, check the 15 amp fuse. I believe it is also tied into the clock and stereo as well!

Rechecked the fuse that was installed yesterday and it also was blown.Popped another 15 amp one in and it didn't work on the clock, radio or cig lighter.Didn't recheck to see if it blew or not. Will have to wait till I can find someone here in Angels Camp area to help me out.

twistedtoy92,a friend suggested I pull the two wires off the back of the cig lighter and then add a smaller amp fuse and see if the clock lights up.He said that will show if the short is in the wires to the lighter.I'm guessing it's either in those wires or the radio wires just below it,as all those wires had been spliced before and was the only area played with the other day.

A friend came by and tested all the wires with a multi meter and found a dead short in the new cig lighter kit.He took it apart and found a piece was touching the inner copper sleeve.Everything working now...thanks for the replies.
