Sacrifices you made to build your RIG?

I'm just wondering what sacrifices you made to build your rig if you are short on time and money?  Anything you do to spend less money or time on, just to have more time and money to build?  Would you even live a bare-bones lifestyle just to afford the time and money to build your rig?

sometimes I feel like I sacrificed my sanity :willynilly: Im a broke :moon: fool who by all rights cant afford to build trucks but its an addiction thats out of my control and it makes me happy, I think.  Every dime I have that doesnt get spent on food or gas goes to the toyota fund.

Just depends on whats going on in your life.  It was after having a wife, kids, and a mortgage, that I found Toyota, Marlin, dual cases, and SAS kits.  So, I have made alot of sacrifices.  Mostly what gets sacrificed is the Toyota fund.  But I do pick up parts when I have spare coins.  I find some killer deals every once in a while.  I have 3 front axles and parts for them, (not complete) with less than $500 in them.  One top shift case for $20.  Various parts and pieces from friends on here and local, and MarlinCrawler when I am in Fresno.  All nicely stored away in the shop till the time comes when I can finally put a rock crawler together.

But your more after what can you get by with cheaply on your rig?  Correct?

Best thing is to search and ask if you don't see.  Most of us, can give you an answer, but its up to you to decide on what you go with.  There are things that you shouldn't compromise on.   Just ask.  We can help with more specific things.

No, I don't like to sacrifice/compromise safety or breaking down, cause I want to be cheap. It was more of a question geared towards what some of the others above have mentioned.  It's like any other hobby/ lifestyle you have to decide what's more important--- haha shoes, clothes, beer. Etc.  Hahaha eating noodles.  Whatever it takes to get the rig done!!!

And you're right, there is times when you can get smoking deals.

I like to say my rig is backyard built/ built by craigslist. but its capable and has never truly broken down on me, although i got basically everything used and for cheap its got all the good stuff, 5.29s,longs,lockers, duals, 37s, cage, new motor etc.

i do eat alot of noodles rather then spending the $$ on more important stuff i buy parts but im young and can still afford to do that, alot of the guys on here have families and full time careers and sacrifice alot to build their crawlers.

but in the end when on the trail it all pays off, especially when the family can enjoy the rig as well.

3-4 o'clock late night missions at the shop (time&sleep), wearing clothes and shoes till they fall apart, groceries (never sacrifice the beer), girlfriends, and of course my hard earned money I make working on everybody else's rigs.... Which reminds me I need to get my runner done!
