Shock hoops and OME on my 83?
« on: Jul 03, 2014, 05:03:29 PM »
Been searching this forum and others seeing if anyone has used aftermarket shock hoops with OME springs on their SA yota? From my search I have gathered that high steer is doable with these springs which is great. If shock hoops and longer shocks will work with OME springs will I gain anything, or will these springs just not flex the way others do? I'm trying for lower lift height running 31s but a lot of flex, kinda like the little samurias. Or would it be a waste of time and money?  Thanks for the input!

I don't have experience with OME springs on a SA toyota but I have some on the rear of my tacoma and they use all the travel my 10" shocks have. I'm guessing you won't get as much travel as using a longer than stock spring with extended shackles, but I'm sure you'll get more travel than just stock.

Thanks for the reply. I'm starting to think the OME springs may not be as flexible as other springs and not worth welding up hoops. I'll have to drive down the road to Yotaman and see what they have to say.

I think ome's would be great for a toy on 31's, thats what id do. they will flex better than stock and theyre a quality spring. For the rear I would plan on moving the shackle hanger forward a bit or try the longer 51'' ome rear springs for the 90's pickups.
As i see it thats your best bet. Allpro,tg springs are gonna make your truck look ridiculous on 31's. As for shocks bolt up the springs flex em out an measure, that is the best way to know what size shocks and where to place the mounts.

For sure thanks! Best thing to do is just order the springs and measure! I was thinking adding a little longer  shackle as well. I see stock is 3.5" I'm thinking the 5.5" would net me a little more lift and flex. And for the rear yes I've been reading and the springs for the 88- and above are much better, a little longer, more flex, ect.
