Windshield Sealing?
« on: Mar 22, 2014, 10:52:14 AM »
Anyone have a tip or trick for sealing the windshield in? The cab originally had the chrome trim pieces in that were pretty much trash and as I found out some refer to "rust makers" and found some perforations in the A-Pillar.

Unsure if it leaks at this time but sealant still looks good but what have people done to fix the gap between the glass and cab? I was thinking of just running some black silicone around the entire thing and squeegeeing it flat. Its a rock cralwer and the paint was brushed on so paying a crap ton of money for new pieces of trim just dosent make sense.

Mine is all rusted out.  Amazing how fast it happens.  I've heard that there is a generic window seal that kinda overlaps the body some.  I haven't seen it, but I've heard of other members using it.

Yeah silicone, or a good urethane sealant would work.

Yeah I heard of some austrailan company making a replacment for non US models that had the gasketed in windows that can be used but ran into dead ends looking into it. Its an 84 toyota crawler, not looking for perfection. Curious to see if anyone did anything special or knew of something. Will probably just get a caulk gun and see what home depot has.

Yeah I was missing most of my chrome pieces like many of us are. When I had my windsheild replaced i had them install a generic window seal
This is the best picture I could find, can take more if requested.

i like the generic window seal idea. i siliconed mine and it still leaks somehow, so i just tarp it when it rains. a long term permanent fix would be a new window seal like daniresch suggested.

Hmm maybe Ill look into that, its the original glass from 88 so its a little "worn and torn".

Ill wait until its on the road and get glass insurance and accidently have a rock kick up and crack it perhaps.
