3RZ vacuum hose ?'s
« on: Mar 15, 2014, 04:23:18 AM »
I'm neck deep in a 3RZ swap.  I've got most of my lines figured out, but there's a couple that are throwing me and I don't have a complete motor to look at, any help IDing these would be awesome.

1) I would have figured these two for the PS pump, but there's nowhere on the pump to put them?

2) These next two come off the bottom and top of the intake plenum in the direction of the drivers side fender - charcoal canister?

3) Brake booster?

4) No idea on this one, to the intake perhaps?

5) This coming off the bottom of the throttle body looks like a coolant hose, but I don't see where it wants to end up...

6) And on the intake tube itself:

This is getting pieced together instead of all coming from the same donor (I know, I know).  The block is '95 or '96 (because it has a distributor), I have no idea on the rest of this stuff, it's all coming from junkyards.  So I could have a mismatch of parts and have some hoses with no home?

Utah,
I have an '03, so I'm not saying all of these will be the same for whatever year of truck you have, but here goes:

Pic 1: My '03 does not have either of those.
Pic 2: Goes to smog equipment near the fuel tank.
Pic 3: Goes to smog equipment on the driver side fender well.
Pic 4: Goes to the brake booster.
Pic 5: Goes to the top of the valve cover.
Pic 6: Appears to be the bottom of the IAC valve. It goes to the EGR valve.
Pic 7: The smaller one goes to a diaphragm of sorts which is mounted towards the front of the fuel rail. Not sure where the larger one goes as I replaced my air intake tube with something I made but, my OEM air tube did not have that connection point. If your stock air box does not have a nipple that size towards the radiator side of it like mine does, that would also go smog equipment on the driver side fender well.

I work on getting pics posted for you.

Hopes this helps.

Pic #1. The hp pow steer line on 97-99 has a valve on it for those. Just plug them off. I changed my pow steer line cause my other one got a leaker and the new one I got didn't have that wacky valve anymore so yea I just plugged those off

Do you need pics?  If so, I need to make my photos smaller in resolution to get them on here.

No, I think I'm good.  I'll hit you up if I get stuck again though. :)

Instead of making a new thread, I'll bump this one...there are some good pics.

In pic 3, there is a diaphram/regulator that has 4 or 5 vacuum hoses connected, and there is a nipple on the bottom....is there a hose that connects that to anything?    I've inherited a 3rz swap and am trying to get the vacuum stuff cleaned up.

Thanks

I believe that hose hooks into the egr.

Thanks.  Mine is hooked to nothing (the single nipple on the bottom)   I'll investigate.

Great help.

We'll if you don't have an egr valve then all those vacuum lines just need plugged, but if your egr is gone make sure there's not a hole in your intake where the egr is supposed to be bolted up. When egr is deleted the hole has to be capped off. And you'll get a code for exhaust gas recirculation being insufficient.

you can put a resistor on the egr sensor and fool it into thinking everything is ok. I saw a post on it somewhere. google that one.

The EGR is gone, and the hole is plugged.

So I would need to cap all the lines that run to the 'connector'?     The rest of the system seems to be intact.  Would it be better to just replace the EGR valve?

Yea plug all the hoses. And keeping it or deleting it is up to you. I deleted mine and I saw an increase in performance. That was before I was turboed, seemed like it woke my air intake up tremendously, But I get a cel, need to look into the resistor mod. Recirculating exhaust gases back into your intake is the same as farting in your mouth.

The rest of my EGR system seems to be intact, the only thing missing is the EGR valve.    The smog box is still on the fender with the hoses hooked up and the electrical connections present.   Do I need to wire in the resistor?   and which connector is that done to?

Thanks

I'm not sure I haven't done the resistor mod yet. I was goin to research if myself. I'm sure if you google it you will fine something but until then just run it. It will throw a cel though.

I did some more digging.

The PO did the resistor mod and I now think all of the hoses coming off the emissions 'box' are now going to the correct place.    Once I saw where the resistor was supposed to go it was pretty simple.   Put the resistor in the harness side of the connector that used to run to the EGR.

cleared the CEL i was getting and now no CEL for a few hundred miles.

Do you have any photos and what size resistor?

Thanks.
