Carrier- pinion contact
« on: Mar 11, 2014, 07:24:56 PM »
What would cause the pinion gear to wear grooves into the carrier? I've seen some pics of this before and now it's happening on someone's rig.It was recently re geared and locked so parts/build are fairly new.?.also,the grooves are only on half the carrier, not all the way around.

Your pinion nut is loose or you have a bad bearing, under acceleration it will lift the pinion up off the carrier but under deceleration the pinion will drop onto the carrier if the nut is loose or the bearing is bad.

I had this same problem. I had gear marks in my ARB from the crush sleeve crushing even more from some abuse. went to a solid pinion spacer and tach welded the nut on and no more problem
