This is what I picked up today.  This is a front toy 8" third with new yukon 5.29's.  The last set I had this guy do blew up.  Check out these contact patterns and let me know what you think.  I personally don't like it.  I'm holding off on putting it back into the housing till I got some reconfirmation.  I'm thinking about sending the whole third to marlin to get professionally done.

I have seen a lot BETTER contact pattern have serious issues... thats bad... if you paid get your money back or have them do it over till its right... but then again, that contact pattern would make me not want to have them touch it again! I would probably attempt it myself... could probably half-ass it better than that guy did.  :twocents:

Yep, i'm not surprised with the opinions.  Same guy did the rear end too, it's held up fine so far...i haven't pulled it to look at it but I dunno.  Front end blew up the first time I took it on a difficult trail.  I'm gonna make some calls and see what it's gonna cost to get it re-setup.  pretty pissed at this point.

If you haven't already, check out www.gearinstalls.com - there is a wealth of toy R&P information there.

Send it to Zuk in AZ. That's where I shipped mine to and I coulden't be happier. Give Zuk a pm and see what he would charge ya to set the tolerances.

I went back to him cuz i thought that i was the reason i blew up the gears.  i figured the 5.29's are smaller and i got a heavy foot ya know.

It looks like the ring gear is too far away from the pinion (the engagement looks WAY too shallow), and if so, is there too much backlash? Does the pinion turn a lot before the ring gear turns? Another possibility is that the shim was not put between the pinion and the inner bearing. It definitely needs to be pulled apart and checked. :ack: (don't ask me how I know about the second one.  :hammerhead: )
It ain't worth doin' if you don't have to clean up afterwards!

I've got 5.29's in my DD/trail rig and I abuse them pretty good on and off the road. So far they have held up with no signs of wanting to give out for the full 8 years that I've had them. Even ran the front one about 4-5 miles wheeling without oil just last October cuz I lost my drain plug.

Birfailed
