Here's some more pics of the X-member and shackle hanger mod. I learned a few more things I forgot to mention earlier. 1st my shocks are limiting my droop (I thought thats what limit straps were for LOL). And I also noticed that both upper and lower shock mounts aren't level.. the top mounts are 1/2" off and the bottom aren't much better... Oh well that's a project for a different day.. One I'm likely not to get to for a while. But I am going to look into getting longer shocks possible but that's also low priority.  Also after taking these shots today I noticed my receiver isn't centered... It's 1/4" off... oh well

Gussets I welded in this morning real quick, for the receiver tube.

Hopefully I get to adding this to front end next weekend.

No progress to report today but I did get some parts delivered via UPS! I also picked up a set of Sliders yesterday so hopefully I'll have some time to work on things this weekend.

All the parts needed for my hydro assist.

Stainless oversized valves and crawler cam from Engine builder! Headed to the machine shop this afternoon!

lostbuckaroo

Had a little time tonight so I pulled my steering box, in hopes to tap it this weekend for Hydro assist, and... This is what I found on the inside frame rail mount...

Now I know there's more than one way to skin a cat but this don't look good to me...   :-\ What do you all suggest?? I'm was thinking of getting new plates and tubes..but I'm not really keen on pulling these existing plates off for fear of what's left of the frame. I could fab a new inner plate myself tack it on drill and and sleeve it..

What do you all think I should do.. there's only one sleeve on the upper mount hole, and it's not welded in.

I went with marlins kit, and plated the frame

lostbuckaroo

Seems like I've been working on this thing but not allot of pictures or major progress to report. Last weekend I plated the inside of the frame where the where the bolt holes where extremely hogged out. Tapped my steering box for hydro assist and re-installed the box.

I removed the trans and Xfrer Cases. I tightened down all the hardware on the rear suspension. My goal is to get everything done on the back half before I put the bed back on. I removed the remaining gas lines and worked on removing the extra brake line that runs from the LSPV. I've got a new proportioning valve coming from Summit tomorrow.I went to the auto parts store and got the necessary fittings and also rented a double flaring tool.  I also installed a new 1" bore Master Cylinder and will install a new Clutch MC tomorrow. The PO removed all this stuff for some reason but good thing is, I got it with the truck and it's all intact, I just gotta put it back in (brake & clutch MC lines) Getting all the hydraulic line routed and the brakes bled will be my goal for the weekend.

Trans & Transfer Cases. The PO has a very short shifter (no knob) on the crawl box?? Not sure what the deal is with this...??? So I'm gonna find another shifter, and the shifter on the rear box appears to be leaking pretty bad so I gotta figure this out too.

Got the proportioning valve and brake lines buttoned up yesterday. Adjusted and finished up the parking brake. I also attempted to mount my Clutch MC but I'm missing some nuts so gotta go get some hardware for that. Also need a couple of longer bolts to bolt down my prop valve to the bracket I made for it. I spent the better part of the afternoon cutting, cussing and fitting brake lines to get the prop valve setup the way I wanted. Also after much trial and error, and help from youtube I'm proficient with the double flaring tool.. However it wouldn't hurt my feelings if I never had to use one again.  :_order:

Also maybe you guys that are looking at my thread can tell me if I've got the lines on the firewall routed correctly. The only thing that doesn't look right to me is the Clutch MC line... it' looks like the PO spliced in a section of rubber line and it happens to go right underneath the Brake MC however there's no brackets for it..???

Prop Valve

Another view of the prop Valve

Bracket I made to mount the prop valve.. painted up and ready to go

In this photo you can see the flex rubber line that's coming from the Clutch MC..Not sure this is OEM????

Found a leak in one of my new brake lines (between the MC and the Prop Valve) after I returned the rented Double Flaring tool.. So here's a pic of round two. I really liked how it looked before but this isn't bad either.

Pulled the seats and started cleaning up the floor boards.. gonna mount some speakers in side pillars by the seats. (removed them from the doors).  Planing on undercoating and painting the floors.. not gonna spend too much time here because it's just gonna get trashed anyway. Also gonna make some new door panels or just paint/re-line the old ones. Again not gonna spend too much time here because I plan on making tube doors.

Painted all my new work on the rear X member and shackle hangers, also fabbed a little bracket for the parking brake line so it doesn't pop when the suspension droops out. Put the bed back on.. I'm planing on building a flatbed sometime down the road.. but the bobbed bed will do for now

lets see some pics!

Not really anymore pics other than these a took of the 22r engine tear down. I took the block, crank, pistons and rods into the machine shop yesterday.. I do suspect the bottom end had been worked on before because the rod bearing caps were installed backwards. I.E. Cap #1 was on Cylinder #4 ect.. Waiting to hear back from the machine shop.

The good: Cylinders looked good.
The bad: #4 Piston had a gouge in the top, I suspect a valve collision..

The normal: Looked to be normal end play in in the crank.. New thrust bearings in order.

Loaded up and ready to go to the machine shop.

Got the slider brackets all welded up and ready to mount.. Taking the truck over to a buddies house today to start on the Exo Cage.

Yeah a light bar will fit perfectly in that space in front. Still ain't done.

lostbuckaroo

Worked on building a winch mount yesterday.. I'm using the harbor friend Universal winch mount as my base..

Cleaned up and tried to go over the PO's welds as good as possible... welding over Flux core is a Beeeeotch!

Fabbed up a new reinforcement plate

Winch mount mock up.. I'm building it to mount much like most of the after market winch mount bumpers with a bolt on design..

Trimmed and tacked up. Next I'll add D ring clevis mounts, box it in and add gussets..

lostbuckaroo

Still working on the winch mount fab.. was able to take some time last night and weld up some bracing and these beefy D ring clevis mounts from Ruff Stuff..

lostbuckaroo

Winch mount done! Now building my engine!

I was wondering the same thing. I really like the design of the exo but it does seem like there is a lot of space between the exo and top of cab.
