transfer case question...
« on: May 13, 2002, 06:40:06 AM »
I have an 85 p/u 4x4 auto tranny std cab long bed. I was wondering how durable my transfer case is? I know the tranny being automatic isn't anything ya'll would consider durable in the rock crawling community but how's the transfer case? Could it be used for a dual setup?

Thanks,
Brian "ROGUEDOGG" Ford

Well, its not. You have a chain drive t/case, and internally, Toyota made two versions of the chain drive t/case, you having the weaker one. (See more info on chain drive here: http://www.marlincrawler.com/java/gearvschain.html )

More bad news. On you Automatic, the T/case and Transmission are basically incorporated with each other and can not go hand and foot. So we can not even seperate the two, let alone design a dual case for it.  :(

Well aren't you the bearer of good news  :talking: I kinda thought so, maybe it'd be a decent setup in the sand rail I'm going to "TRY" and design and build. Just out of curiousity, is there a particular website(s) or other form of information on designing and building your own rail? Just thought I'd ask.

Thanks,

Hey Rougedog

85 year truck is a great year to have especially if it's fuel injected????is it?

If it is why not convert over to a 5 speed tranny?  Then you'll have a good tranny and t-case and your options then become pheonominal. :o

If it's fuel injected it would definetly be worth converting over to a manual tranny. ;D

Ron....LOL Yeah it's EFI and I just talked to you the other day on the phone with Marlin in the background... I am converting to a 5 speed R151F ring a bell. I just ordered the HD clutch assembly, Flywheel, T.O. Fork etc... from ya'll. Hope to get my parts today...*(hint hint)* any word? I was just hoping with my auto tranny that I could either sell the whole shibang or .... ANYONE want to buy the whole shoot`n match? *(tranny/transfer, flywheel, torque conv....)* ?? Please let me know.

Thanks,
  Brian "ROGUEDOGG" Ford

P.S. Ron You'll get to know my name by heart soon enough I'm not even close to being done ordering from ya'll. Again THANKS for a great job ya'll do there   :)
