Gold40Runner

Ok guys, I have a 91 4 runner that currently has 40 inch tsls 3" wheel spacers in the front and an ifs rear axle in rear with 1.5" I have rancho rs 9000 shocks in the front turned up to 9 and billstein 5150 piggyback shocks in the rear. I know I have literally a ton of weight with the full bodied exoed rig and am trying to see if there is any way to stop the swaying/tippy feeling. Oh yea and the rear is leaf sprung with 63" chevys with an added leaf front has TG HD 4" springs. I know there is a "universal" sway bar that I can buy but I didn't want to lose flex. any tips would be appreciated thanks. :driving:

I also just bought a set of old style 37" mtrs and am planning on losing the 3" spacers and running 1.5" all around...

How are the rear shocks mounted? Get them as vertical as you can
How tall is it sitting on 40s?

As vertical as you can on the shocks is a good trick.  If they are almost touching in the A position on your rears that will not be good on a 4Runner. Move the tops of the shock outboard more if space allows. My 4Runner was kind of squirrerley in the back when I first set it up.  The chassis was previously a pickup and there sure is ALOT more high weight on a 4Runner with the top on and all that. I couldn't imagine adding an exocage.  I ended up adding about 4 leaves to my chevy 63s for a total of like 8 leaves, 2 leaves to my front springs with a total of maybe 6 or 7 leaves, and shortened my shackles to about 4 inches and it made alot of difference. I ended up with about a 2" lower ride which was nice too. Way better for handling overall and it actually flexes better with the shorter shackles which I did not expect at all.

Also check out you ranchos off the truck, I am still running 2 of them on the rear, but 3 out of 4 of mine have ended up getting stuck in the "full soft" position and the adjusters quit adjusting. If they are working you should notice a huge difference when you adjust them and compress them by hand, if you don't they are shot. I am now using regular non-adjustable gas charged shocks and they feel way better with the heavier 4Runner body.

OOPS

Torsion bar style sway bars F&R will fix the problem and do not hinder flex.

Im having problems uploading pics but I have been aggressively lowering it. It is almost too low for 40s now and will be just right on 37s. The shocks are as vertical and outboard as I can get them without cutting the floor...

Gold40Runner

I have been looking at the currie antirock universal sway bar but don't want to spend the $400 if I can just get new shocks.. Im sure it would help a TON tho..

OOPS

Shocks may help some, but the sway bars will help more, if my truck was not a trailer queen I would have them.

This place has all the parts to build your own T-bar set-up. Call or e-mail him for prices.

I just got a rear one. One day I may do the front. The power steering box poses some issues.

If you look through this thread on PBB (it is big) you will see what Erik B did to solve the problem with the steering box. He has them F & R on his 97 runner.

Try tk1racing.com (TonyK). He has a decent sway bar at a good price and is in the same area. The stability is well worth the minimal flex loss

Agreed, your spring rates are too soft. My leaf sprung rig flexes like mad and handles well on the road. All Marlin springs with some adjustments

I guess tg "HD" isn't so HD afterall haha. and I added a leaf to the rear of the 4x4 chevy 63's!
