:smack:  So Ive been working on the 81 frame wire wheeling and sanding and priming and I just got some paint on it the other day, Im using rust-oleum hammered finish Brown.....   only reason for this color was it was on sale from 12.00 to 3.00 So i got two cans and I like the way it turned out.

I have some floor pan work to do on the cab  and alittle welding to finish up on the frame, from the PO mess
NOW FOR THE PICTURES

this pic is of a part of the frame i was testing paint on, this is the hammered style

here is a before and after with the paint on the knuckles

cleanin these up  I NEED A DETENT BALL, I spaced it and let it shoot out across the room, now i need another

I got my  MC seal in and new gasket  and bolted them together,  Is there a special way to make sure they are lined up perfectly??????????

heres my michigan axle all sanded down and painted with the hammered finish

I had to paint this due to the dampning material  falling off and getting rust back there,  NOT NOW

lots of work to go, since it is going to be nice out i am going to try to get the frame finished painted and I have a new hanger coming in the mail today, need to get new hangers on the rear for leafs. still need rear shackles and bushings,

not sure on rear leafs on what i want to run, thinking of s10 leafs only because you only need to relocate the front leaf hanger forward

got this

and did this

tgmaul88

a crawling DD   got the 37 mtr's there ready to wheel!

tgmaul88

you can see from my photos there is not much to "crawl" over around here  I plan on getting it rolling and tow it with me out to oregon!
I only have 4 :10s right now and no drive shafts that will fit, so i will wait till oregon to get my drive shafts

Heres some of my tires mounted,  that one thats new need to come off and be put on a black rim

Bolted a bunch of stuff to my motor

Got my new rear leaf hangers

AND

I finally got the bottom of my tank painted two thick coats on top of self etching primer

Almost finished painting my frame, heres a few shots  I really want to figure out what to do with the inner frame rails....  maybe dump motor oil down them, I dont know....

Here is my 1st attempt at welding MIG

OOPS

Looking good!!!

Get some flap wheels and clean your metal until it is shiney bright, you will get much better welds. If it is new metal clean it up also, you want to get the mill scale off of it.

HogCanyonHopper

nice man. progress is good  your welds will get better as you do it more. try the stitch method, kind of a back forth motion, but in semi circles...does that make sense  :headscratch: I cant wait to see this truck rollin  :burnout:

so I have decided  to run  the 430 gears until i get a locker and  ill install the 5 29s later down the line when in oregon,  But i went to the local yard and picked up another 430 third and it was not the same  maybe alittle different.   I know they will work, but which one is stronger?

I see one  has a smaller casting   not sure if its a 4cyl 4.30 or a 6 cyl 4.30.,     which is stronger?

one is from a automatic 4runner, and the other 91 4x4 unknown

Also some other progress

tgmaul88

I plan on doing some welding soon with the rear  member, some triangle pieces of plate steel on the corners and such

tgmaul88

Got the 4.30 third installed and birfs installed and spindles on, high steers on, next is IFS hubs, and then tires, then ill wheel it under the frame after I have the hanger welded up

And even though at some time I will be doing a EFI conversion to 22re 2rz or 3rz at some time I just threw on the simple of simple a carb manifold with a weber,    just to get things moving

here is my helper....helpin

Sweet!!   Gettin the little guy started kind of young eh. Teaching him to wear his safety gear  Cant wait to this truck rolling!! Go West young man!!!!  :ha_ha:

So got some stuff done, Got the front hanger welded on, the plate in the front for strength, and the rear caps to help the front hanger from ripping off,  I DO NOT WANT TO EXPERIENCE THAT
So i did this

Got my rear shackle hangers welded up  did the way back style

And I received in the mail two sets of 4 cyl 5 29 gear sets  One with a master install kit! I may need some help setting these up once i get to OREGON

BUT I now have this in my way  Was doing a timing belt and Needed more parts then I had, So I called toyota dealer and ordered up the cam seal crank seal and crank bolt,

More to come as i Finsih stuff
