O.K.

I found a replacement used transfer case.  To replace it, must I remove the transmission and transfer case from the engine or may I only remove the case from the rear of the transmission?

6 bolts size 14mm hold the transfer case to the transmission you may drop the transfer case without removal of full transmission. Good luck

Thank you!  This sounds like a real weekend adventure!

Picked up the case today...spilled gear oil all over the back of my truck.  Fun. Fun.  Rust treatment.

if your asking this im assuming you should know to disconnect the shifter.... and if its a forward shift you will have to pull it back untill the shift forks are out of the tailshaft of the transmission before it comes all the way down and out.

Oh, mine is a top shift.

From the top without the shift lever I see two tabs on two shafts.  I assume I need to orient the shafts aftward before pulling the transfer case.  Does this mean it need to be in 4H before pulling it and when putting the other one back in?
