Loud Clicking noise.
« on: Apr 02, 2013, 11:35:15 PM »
So my 79 pickup is making a  loud clicking noise in or around the passenger side knuckle. Its a loud popping/ clicking noise. It only happens when the hubs are locked. Iv replaced the hubs. I also pulled out the birfs and examined. using camo method. they looked nice no marring or anything unusual. one thing i did notice is the hub lock nut is marred cracked. u think its the nut itself. :dunno: ??? :phone: :turtle:

Does it click when in 4 wheel drive or just when hubs locked. You might want to look at you front drive shaft too.

Try going into 4 wheel drive but keep the hubs unlocked. I had a drive shaft u joint that was bad and acted just like what you are describing.  Not sure what you mean by hub lock nut. The lock nuts are for the wheel bearings not the hubs.

I am going to go with worn out Birfields.

Replace the spindle nuts also, dealer item or you can order them from Marlin.

I agree with oops, definitely sounds like a worn birf, especially with it being one side.
