Bought an 85 reg cab w/o an engine in it. Made the misatke of picking it up at night. When looked at closely, discovered the frame was cracked, with 1/4" plates scabbed on each side. What to do now? Anyone have experiance with this kind of mess, and any remedies they have used?  Thanks for any input.

Pictures help. Probably cut off the repair if it looks bad enough. Diagnose what's wrong and repair it correctly.

anything is repairable

Definitely need pictures. But probably cut off out the crapp repair, lay a piece of plate into the frame and weld that in, them put a nice fish plate over that.

general rule is to diamond the plate, no horizontal or vertical welds on the frame would be preferred

Drill holes at the ends of the cracks, grind it out and weld it. Also if you put a piece of steel into the frame, you need to do a backing strip, a beveled edges and a root opening
