I have been in the AF for about 11 years now and Iam originally from the UP of Michigan but curently stationed at Ellsworth AFB in Rapid City SD love it here and just started to get back into rock crawling. I purchased a 78 CJ7 about 5 months ago and put a mild 4" lift and 33's on it but what I really want is a 1st gen runner so I have been looking around for one on the for sale forums here.

:welcome: and BIG THANKS for your service Sir! :usa:

I like CJs a lot, especially the 5. First choice for a 4Runner would be 1985 because its the first year for EFI and the last year for a solid front axle. As a result they are hard to find and come with a hefty price tag. '84s are a great choice also, especially if you are planning an engine conversion :twocents:

Thank you and I have been looking at a turbo runner on here for sale and it is close to Rapid City but I have to wait until I get back to the states before I can get anything. I like my CJ7 its nothing to look at but it is fun to drive the qudratrac tcase in it is junk though it skips and will not stay in low for some reason but I didnt buy it to keep it stock.

Turbo 4Runners are nice, but expect to make poor fuel economy. With 35s and 5.29s you'd probably make 12 MPG.

Ah. I forgot to mention why this is so. Turbo 4Runners only came with Automatics, and if that wasn't bad enough, they used the inefficient early style A340F with the second torque converter or whatever it is in there.

I was looking at one with a transplanted Supra turbo motor in it.
