FJ60/62 axle in a hilux?

Ok, with all these axle questions going around.  Who has put a FJ60/62 front axle in a Hilux, and what were the issues you ran into?  Since they are the same width as a IFS rear axle, I'm just thinking.  I know of the spring plates need to be flipped.  But what other issues caused a headache?

Just thinking!!

Moving the spring perches is the only headache! Everything else is essentially the same as the mini truck axle. Only the short side shaft and differential are different. High steer will work but you'll need longer tierod and drag link (I think some places offer an fj60 high steer kit).

I've seen a few FJ60/62 builds, but most of them didn't finish or ??.  And its an axle you really don't hear alot about being used in builds.  I was just curious to see what is the difference.  Cause everybody is using Mini, and tons.  Few have done the FJ80, but DAMN the high steer kit alone could buy two complete used mini axles.  I have a couple of buddies that work in the body shop business, and was thinking on seeing what they can find, and price.

I've been scratching my head on my axle I have sitting in the shop.  It's at a point that I feel that it may have too much rust.  And I want the width, but I'm not a huge fan of spacers.  And doing the IFS hub swap is another option tho.  I just wish somebody else made affordable housings, and I'll be DAMNED if I buy anything from the other company.

Well if you do not want to go with the fj80, then the fj 60/62 is a good choice. Get 1 and run it.

The FJ80 would be kickass, but the amount of the price of the high steer alone would buy me more goodies.

And after a quick search, gotta love the links at the bottom of posts, the preferred axle is a FJ62, due to the pinion is rotated an additional 5*. (iirc)

Sounds like your found your axle. I wont lie, the fj80 is pricy. but it was worth it to me.

It's a dream, right now.  With a small pile of parts waiting, needing, time, and money!!  It's just a thought, but so far all the parts I have invested money into, can be put on a FJ62 axle.  I have a mini axle, but is more of a spare housing at this point, due to the rust, that has me a little leary about.

I have an FJ60/62 axle that I built sitting in my shop ready to go under my 88 4 Runner.  I lowered the passenger side spring perch into the housing to keep it low since the diff pushes the housing out more.  The perch width is very close to a mini truck as well, only off by like 3/8".  I have not installed it and have since decided to go with a 3 link up front versus the leaf springs.  Steering is standard Hysteer arms that will be drilled out for heims, since I am running a steering setup from RuffStuff.  I am also using IFS hub bodies with Tacoma rotors and V6 calipers outboarded on the knuckle.  All hardware is ARP and am also using FJ80 driveflanges.  One additional part I swapped was the diff cover, I cut it off and welded on a RuffStuff 3/8" steel cover.  Here are some pictures.

Kyle, it would have to be a pretty sweet deal.  Especially, knowing who originally built it!  But we will see what happens.  I'm doing some serious thinking right now.

For what a MC built e-locked hp 3rd costs I can let the axle go. That's a steal for a fully built axle. Do it!!

Kyle, I would love to, but that is a bit steep for me.  I'm on a rolling beer cans for parts budget.  I got WAY too much into credit cards right now.  Last June in Disneyland put me over the top!!  :bricks:  That's why I pick up cheap parts here and there when I have some extra $.

If you see it, its for sale.

Zippo, those are nice, very nice!!  But VERY expensive.  I can almost build a Hilux axle for what they want just for those steering arms.

Got a buddy that is in the body shop business, checking on the availability of a FJ62 axle, just for shits and grins!!

I really didn't want a Mini-Van, but the van I bought was getting 25 MPG.  (pre-ethanol gas)  And my other option was a suburban, and they were lucky to get 18 to 20 at best.  So, it was a no brainer, even though the van is much harder to work on vs. a suburban.  And was cheaper to insure, and drive long term wise.
