Clearancing concerns
« on: Nov 27, 2012, 02:20:23 PM »
I literally just finished the install of a weber 38 just a couple hours ago and im already lookin at my next upgrade (love my truck) so any help would be appreciated. Iv heard about D.U.I distributors and would like to know if they clear the pre 85 hoods without a body lift. I have an 80 and refuse to put a body lift on for safety concerns. Also did anyone notice a difference in mileage or power with these? Just wanna do my research before droppin another $350. I appreciate it yall

Dont Tread On Me!! Iv stood toe to toe with some of the baddest joes you'll ever see but i never back away. Knock me down and ill stand back up screamin bring it on. My mind and heart keep me goin long after my body is tired from fighting.

I would just keep it well tuned with the freshest stock ignition parts you can.  I have fooled around with a bit of aftermarket spark/ignition stuff and it all amounts to nothing on these 4 bangers.

With $350 you are most of the way to a lower ring and pinion setup.

Nothing, I mean nothing, baring forced induction, can give you as much seat of the pants drivability gains and gas milage as the proper gearing for whatever tire you are running.  Most if us like 4:88s or 5:29s for anything from 33s to 37s.  With 33s and good low gears your truck would do about as good as it could do without an engine swap.

Preciate the reply. I have freshly rebuilt axles with 4.10 bc i do alot of highway driving to and from work and i only have a 4 speed tranny but i have been leaning towards 4.56 or 4.88 with my 33s that will eventually be 35s after i get a higher lift

This is mostly a DD after all. My goal though is to build a drivable rig that csn stand the hammers and the rubicon one day

Heck all you need is sliders and you are ready for the rubicon as is...  :)  I have a basically stock '80 with lockers, bumpers, sliders and a winch and it can do almost as much as my built 4Runner.
