Depends if you want them full width where they stick out of the wheel wells or you want them mostly under the fenders. Cutting will require you to have custom made axle shafts which can be pretty pricey.

would it be possible to make the factory axles able to hold up the the stress that the V8 would produce?

Depends on how you wheel. With the 60s you can just run a shallow rim and make it way narrower.

60's in stock form are strong, but they will break. That is why there are so many up-grade parts for them.

Well I am building a multiply purpose rig I have a small block 400 being given to me and I am wanting to do a SAS before I install the motor and transmission. But I sometimes. . . OK most of the time I have a heavy foot and I don't want to start popping Toyota shafts. But I don't want something so wide I have to watch out for little Nissan cars, and on the same note I don't want a Dana 60 that is shortened because of the price and have to have them specially cut if I broke one and possibly creeping me on the trails.

Ford 9's are another option. Expensive to build also!!! Thing about this sport, parts cost money, upgraded parts cost more money. I am in the process of dropping about another thirteen hundred dollars into my rig in the next couple on months. You want to play, you have to pay!!!!

Just go full width its not that bad, and if you run over a little racer car then you need to pay more attention when on pavement.

I've seen several conversions running stock Toyota axles, they are equal to 44's. Set up with the right parts they are very strong. Running an Auto trans makes it even more forgiving.

shitlbuffout-A saying among 4x4 and off road enthusiasts. Its said after damage normally cosmetic to minor parts damage has occurred on there rig or vehicle. Shitlbuffout is :pokinit: will buff out as in the :pokinit: being the damage will buff as in painted over cleaned polished or "buffed" out.
