Here's some history on the dusy trail...http://www.tacodab.com/dusyershimhistory.html
^ wow that is awesome!
Maybe I'm wrong, looking at the map Coyote is much closer to East and also Ershim lakes. For some reason I've got a connecting trail from Swamp to Dusy stuck in my mind
Also there are a lot of free range cattle in the area that make thier own trails everywhere and can be very confusing to hikers!
Took my son and I one hour and fifty minutes to walk from Ershim Lake to the end of the OHV trail at Coyote Lake with full packs yesterday. Went on Foot trails via Perkins Camp. This is an area you have to learn. There are 5 forks in the trail and only two are signed, two are hard to find. I have three maps, all with trails the other two don't have and there are trails that are not on any maps. Also the only trail taking off from Dusy-Ershim that I know of went from near East Lake to First Dinkey Lake and was closed in 1984 due to wilderness, well other than the trails to lakes that are relatively close like Mallard,Thompson and East.
its according to the gps to the closest points but i can be wrong
Cross country generally takes 3 times longer than trail travel to cover the same distance and is harder. It pays to learn the trails.
im gonna have to try this. every time we're coyote no one wants to go.
I will write out directions when I have more time.
Good stuff. We rode our mountain bikes across Ershim in Oct. of 87 and this trail was our back up plan for getting out quickly if the weather got crazy
That would have been an illegal move. There's even a No Bicycles sign at each end of the trail.
What if you hike with bike on your shoulder??
I'll bet it wasn't in 87'
Dinkey Lakes Wilderness was established in 1984.
