Are the spiders and carrier cast metal?  Or are they forged or something?  I'm guessing they're not cast, 'cause a lot of people weld them, and welding cast can be a pregnant dog to do properly.

Like i said before.  I arc welded mine with about 8 sticks.  I am not the greatest arc welder, but i try, i think thats why i put so many sticks into it.  I welded on both sides.  Here is the pic.  It had been sitting in my truck for 2 weeks.

Well I can tell you the welding held up till my last job when I got on clear pavement in 4 wd and got a few to many rotations in that b$#@&,  jammed up couldn't get it out of 4 wd, dumped the clutch and jerked it hard to at the next job look down and see the rear not always spinning when influenced with a punch of the throttle. Well got 53 miles out of her and 12 hours of clearing parking lots, and driveways. No adverse sounds coming out of (trucks) ass end yet.

It might not break , but I bet your carrier is warped. Thats WAY overkill. I usually weld about two passes from the side gears to the carrier , more like the first pic. Putting too much weld will warp the piss out of the carrier. When you bolt your ring gear back on it and try to set the backlash you will have tight spots where it has warped the flange that the ring gear bolts to. A good weld is better than a lot of weld , and heat is bad.

I've welded about 15 or so toyota thirds ,and  only 1 has broke. It was an IFS front and the guy was trying to turn it around on pavement when it broke. My :twocents:

It shouldn't be warped.  I welded it when it was still in the third member.  It backlash was fine, but i fried the bearings.  It was a junk third anyway.  I only did 1 pass for each weld, and then i filled up the holes in the corners.  Its not like i went over it 2 or 3 times.

:dunno: if it warps just set it on the lathe and bring it back in

as to the 'hauling"   i have hauled a rick of firewood on my truck stacked tightly front to back, and it was green oak , the stack was 24" widex 4 feet tall x 8 feet long,  i had to put astrap over the stacks so it didnt fall off but i have hauled numerous loads like that,  yea  wheel bearings go, but i usually get 1 year or more out of my rear bearings

I had a welded third that someone else welded and they did a horrible job welding and some broke off and got in the teeth and blew up the Ring and pinion. So make sure they are pretty good welds.
