i got problem please help
« on: Apr 05, 2012, 11:39:05 AM »
after the ifs box install while trying to put back the steering shaft (hysteer) 85 toy truck
we had to wedge a flat head screw driver in the small slot/opening on the "Y" u-joint looking thing to open it up a little to get the shaft to slide in
well with just my luck, the "Y" part cracked a little on top of the slot but with the bolt tightened down the crack closes up

1. do you think it would be safe still, since it is a 2pc cast together to form both sides of the "Y"
2. i looked it up at my dealership and its $200 just to replace it new but there is 4 different ones, 2 for colapsable w/ or w/o tilt
then 2 for non-colapsible w/ or w/o tilt, this sucks cause at my local Pick n Pull  usually the steering column is gone so i wouldnt be able to tell if its tilt or not

any insight would help

Don't take chances especially the steering components, even though the crack closed it's cracked and may break completely at a very inopportune moment... like driving down the freeway.
