IFS Hub on SA problem
« on: Oct 07, 2004, 06:09:55 PM »
OK, so I've had my front axle apart enough times to know that there are not that many pieces involved and that they only go together one way...that being said, I can't get my drivers side hub/rotor to go on the spindle far enough.  It goes on and I can feel the inner bearing going over the race on the spindle, but when I go to put the caliper on, the rotor is too far to the outside of the truck and it makes the caliper sit crooked, and the bolt holes won't line up.  In other words if you are looking at the front of the truck with the steering wheel centered, and both wheels removed, you can see how the rotor is snugged up inside the backing plate on the passenger side, whereas on the drivers side, there is at least a 3/4" gap between the rotor and the backing plate.  :dunno:

A little more info;  I bought the Sky Mfg axle widening kit which uses the IFS rotors, and a custom spacer, SA inner hub seals, with SA rotors and calipers, (you can use the IFS stuff, etc, but I stayed with the SA brakes).  New generation Longfields, Long CroMo inners (Martacked, of course), and a HP/5.29/ARB 3rd member.  So the new parts are the 3rd member, the rotors and the IFS hubs.  WTF?  I don't understand what is wrong.

The axles are going into the diff like butta', and there doesn't seem to be any problems with wheel bearings.  The pads were a tight fit over the new rotors, so I c-clamped the pistons back into the calipers, and it still doesn't want to go on.  I'm trying not to get frustrated with this, but damn I'm starting to get  :maddest:.

TIA

so what was the problem???

Just to make a clarification, you can't use Ifs rotors with the sky widening kit, what you can use is vented rotor from a land cruiser(fj40 or fj60 don't remember).
Ifs rotors have a bigger offset then fj rotors requirering a smaller spacer.

If you're really interested, or need a good laugh at my expense you can read all the gory details on PBB.

BTW, I knew the rotors were not the problem.
