"Swing-style" spare tire carrier?

Anyone ever made or bought something like this for their trucks?  I am looking for a spare tire carrier that you would see on a SUV... It swings open, then you can open the hatch, or in my case the tailgate...

I am looking for ideas on how to make this.  I am comfortable with a welder, and I know my way around the garage.  If anyone has made, or knows what can work, lemmie know.  I need to get the tire out of the bed,

How big is the tire you want to put on the carrier? I know my wife has a Nissan Pathfinder that has a nice swing away carrier.

If you have a large enough tire you may want to angle the pivot so it swings down as it swings out. This way you won,t have to lift the tire. Post up some pictures of the truck so we can see what you are trying to do.

Heres one that a buddy of a buddy builds.  They are hell for stout!  The hinge is made from a 2500 lb. trailer axle.

I would love to run a 35" tire, but I think for now, it is going to be a 33"

As far as pics go... Here is an old shot of the rear end.  I am going to build a bumper to replace the roll pan.  The only difference between this pic, and a new one, is that I have installed a camper shell, added some fender flares, and did a SAS.

Noone has osted pics installed as of yet but I know its on a couple different rigs.  Old Green from Xtreme offroad magazine uns one on his rig and he is in love with it.

Rocklogic 4x4 sells a modified spindle to allow the whole thing to pivot on....hope this helps!

What running gear are you running? I see a passenger side 3rd on the front axel.

Front axle is a Dana 44.  Plans are up in the air right now for a driveline.  I will either be using a stock 4wd tranny/tcase from a 4wd Frontier, and a Marlin 4.7:1 yota top shift case with an OTT adapter.  The other option, is to buy the dual crawler cases from "toyota boy."

Either way, I will have dual cases.  As far as gears, they are 4.9s in the front, and 4.88s in the rear (I may have my #'s mixed up).     Warn premium hubs.  All new spicer ball joints and u-joints.... stock axle shafts.

Future plans are a D44 rear axle, and ARB lockers front and rear.  Right now, I just wanted to get the axle under the truck, and get wheelin   I plan on being fully 4wd by April... right around the corner.

Cool, I have done a couple straight axle Nissan, but nothin newer than 88. They were all Toy axle swaps. If you have the 3.0 or better you should have plenty of power.

Id use a 2wd nissan trans and an OTT adapter to divorce a yota case.  Easy hookup and very adaptable.

I was just gonna leave it at that, but I have a line on a 4wd tranny and tcase for 400 bux.  I figure I can run the divorced yota behind that, and that should kick ass

This was modified, bootyfabbed by my uncle. The bumper is 2x4 tubing and the swing is 2x2. The swing is hinged by a bolt with poly bushings and steel washers. The hinge  acts like a rock anchor on occasion as well. It works good but I'm gonna try and stuff that 35 in the stock position. Marlin has one stuffed under his truck bed and I like look of the runner with no tire hanging off the back.

RockStomper also sells the trailer axle pivot. Scott is a long time yota person going way back on the ORC yota list.

Mine is only half done, so I cant really post pics of it, but I am using 2 spring eyes from some junk leaf springs, stock yota bushings, and putting it all in double sheer. some 2x2x.120 is welded ot that, and up where the tire attaches is a spare spindle and hub assembily.
