what are the child seat laws in CA?

all of the info i am seeing online seems to conflict, and there are literally thousands of sites that try to show this info..... i have spent hours trying to get a solid answer

from what i have found,

no booster seat is $475 fine, and a point on your record

kids should be in the back (said recommended, so not mandatory?) i know if there are airbags you definitely wouldn't put the kid in the front --- in a pickup, you have no choice... so.....

also read they need to be 8 years old, over 100 pounds now, or something like 4'9" tall?

main issue is my daughter is huge, and she is 6 years old, she is 4'3" tall and weighs 97 pounds, the booster we just got her only goes to 100, as do all the other ones we saw.......

Trucks ok,  my runner without back seats, not ok to put in the front.   :hammerhead:

I know a few kids that had to be put back into seats.

so then, what happens if my kid gains 3 pounds and no longer fits in the booster rated for 100? i did not see any boosters rated for more than that.... my kid barely fits in the booster

I don't know if weight becomes an issue anymore ?

As far as I know there is no weight limits/restrictions.I believe it's just age and height. My oldest turns 8 at the beginning of May and has been out of a seat/booster for almost 2 years. We had to get another booster at the beginning of the year.  :hammer:

New law is 8 years old in the booster, don't know what to tell you about the booster seats not being rated to accommodate heavier kids.

from what it looks like.....

8 years old, or over 4'9" tall......

my daughter is neither... we got her a new booster at walmart on new year's eve for $20..... she had previously not be required to be in a booster anymore
